Pig & Horse Productions REVEALS debut feature "Reflections of Gauguin"

Monaco- and Finland-based film and TV production company Pig & Horse Productions announced the launch of its documentary arm and its debut documentary feature film, “Reflections of Gauguin,” currently in production. Directed by Anssi Rimpelä and Heidi Richert, the investigative, character-driven documentary is currently shooting across seven European countries: Finland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Monaco, and France.

Produced by Johanna Poikela, with Pig & Horse Productions’ Salla Kozma serving as executive producer, the film is represented internationally by Maria Kivinen’s Norse Key Studios. “Reflections of Gauguin” traces a decades-long search for truth surrounding a mysterious painting bearing the signature “P. Gauguin.” The canvas has been at the center of Italian philanthropist Stefano Canepa’s life for nearly 20 years. Scientific analysis indicates that its pigments and techniques align with Gauguin’s era, yet gaps in provenance have kept the work out of the official Catalogue Raisonné.

The film follows Kozma on screen as she navigates the elusive world of the global art market, where authenticity, prestige, and profit intersect in complex and often controversial ways. The film’s construction is shaped by interviews with leading experts, including AI recognition specialist Carina Popovici (Switzerland), art historian Irina Stotland (USA), art crime expert Noah Charney (USA/Slovenia), Marc Restellini of Institut Restellini, and art market specialist PhD Pauliina Laitinen (Finland), as well as access to rare archival material and high-profile art spaces.
